The art of Flambé Coffee at Solaris ☕️🔥
By: Mariel Díaz
What is it? Flamed coffee is a beverage made with coffee and liquors. Also known as flambéed coffee, a term that comes from the French flamber is a way of cooking with alcohol (ethanol).
How is it made? We have a signature procedure to make it unique in Solaris: The first thing our experts do is prepare the container where the coffee will be served, this is frosted with sugar in order to add an extra decorative touch and additional flavor to the cocktail. This is the first step, because to achieve the frosting on the edge of the glass or cup, it has to be placed upside down on sugar. Once this is done, a generous spoonful of whipped cream previously prepared by our great kitchen staff is added. It is followed by one cup of American coffee, which causes the chantillí to remain on the surface due to its light texture when it is whipped.
It is now when the spectacular process begins!
A portion of coffee liqueur is taken and then another portion of whiskey, tequila, brandy, amaretto or xtabentún is mixed with the coffe in a metallic container. This ingredients are put on fire and are passed on the air to another container, thus being flammable, pouring this mixture over the fire begins to retain fire in it. A show that dazzles everyone who is waiting for their coffee. This process burns around 50% of the alcohol, which gives it a totally different flavor. When this process is finished, and with the mixture literally on fire, it is served in the container that had been prepared previously. Et voìla!
Types of coffees available in our hotels
You may wonder, what are the flavors you can enjoy when you stay at a Solaris hotel? Here we leave the names of each one and what liquor distinguishes them:
Mexican, made with Tequila
Irish (or Scottish at GR Solaris), made with whiskey
Mayan (only available at resorts in Cancún), made with Xtabentún, a liquor of Mayan origin, produced in the Mexican state of Yucatan, made of honey from bees fed with the flower of xtabentún.
Español, made with Brandy.
Italian, made with Amaretto.
Description of the flavor
Between questions to our guests and those who prepare it, they have told us:
"It's a coffee with a hint of liquor flavors, which is not strong. It feels like toasty, very easy to drink"
"The touch of the flambé caramelizes the liquor a bit and the coffee multiplies its flavor"
"It's the exact combination between a delicious Mexican coffee, the sweetness of sugar and the liqueur of your choice, and the coffee liqueur adding a special note, it does not matter if it's a hot day, having a flambé coffee is enjoying a visual spectacle and a comforting drink".
