Why do we celebrate St. Patrick's Day?

Every March 17th in many places in the United States and Ireland they celebrate St. Patrick's Day, but do you know where this story originated?

Saint Patrick was born in 387 in Kilpatrick, Scotland. His father was an officer of the Roman army. Irish pirates took 16 year old Patrician prisoner and sold him as a slave. He spent six years there and learned to speak the Celtic language. He escaped and went to France where he was ordained a priest. At the age of 46, he decided to return to Ireland to evangelize his people. And there he remained almost three decades, until his death on March 17, 461.

Christian tradition says that Patrick explained the mystery of the Holy Trinity using a three-leaf clover. So that day is a custom to wear a clover in the celebration. It is also usual to dress in green and even dye the beer in honor of Ireland, also dubbed the "Emerald Isle".
